And neither did the LLDC, I'm not sure what your point is? Before it was rebuilt their seating was as far away from the pitch as ours currently is.

That too yes, but they did not have to consider rebuilding it to accommodate football and athletics.

Gavros, I can expect driving rain, to soak those in the front rows, as it did at Southampton a few years back but you expect the roof to cover you when the rain is coming down with no wind, it's not just the front row but about 5 rows back

as below, the main difference is that they demolished the stadium and rebuilt it.

The fact is we could build a brand new 50 to 60,000 ground for half that provided we didn't follow To**enham's flashy and overpriced model.
---
We could, but probably not if this project was led by the current clowns in charge of our club. I would not trust them to get something like that right!

The after photo looks really smart, however there are some glaringly obvious differences in the circumstances.
The main one being that the conversion in Russia was a permanent conversion to a football only stadium whereas ours had to be converted into a stadium that could host football AND athletics still.
I would like to think, or would hope, that if we were given the option to convert the Olympis Stadium into a football only stadium then things would have been different.
Not saying it's right or wrong, just saying the retractable seating and retention of the running track has been one of the biggest issues at the London Stadium.

Yes cough, it turns out that the rain does not fall at a perfect 90 degree angle from the sky??

They told us, the roof would cover us, I'm not talking about driving rain, but rain that comes straight down, soaks from the front to about 5 rows back

You can extend the roof further. You just need to install inner TENSION RING.

Trev - precisely. There seems to be this idea that because we moved one should never get wet - and obviously no-one ever got wet at UP. It's bizarre.

TBF if you sat in row 3 at the boleyn, you'd get soaked too. Here's a tip, don't sit too near the front.

Mongymax 2:40 Thu Feb 22 Re: Russia shows how to convert an Olympic stadium The stadium looks great but couldn't be used in the Premier league as the seats clearly extend beyond the roofline.
A large proportion of OS conversion costs related to the roof extension, which was an epic fail. I sit in Row 3 of the east stand and regularly get fucking soaked.
Indeed it does, world class roof? my arse

It hasn't been converted really, they pulled down most of the stadium in 2013 and rebuilt, leaving mainly the roof I think? before that their seats were as far away as ours.

It's a nice Idea but we're so fucked with the gaff we have.
No looking on on the Web at the what it's , what could. We souls our soul to an Olympic legacy. Thanks Karen.
I'll be hobbling up to that fucker when I'm 90.
Fuck all is going to change unless you knock the fucker down and start again.By that time it will all be with Chinese or Arab money...our soul well and truly fucked .

Before reading any further than the OP, the gradient of the stands behind the goal is still not acceptable or a home football stadium . It's sad to think that we're now realistically talking decades before we actually have the possibility of being in a genuine football stadium again.
Our owners legacy will be that they are hated by tens of thousands for almost destroying the soul of West Ham United. Luckily, that soul will live on and history will show David Sullivan & David Gold to be worse than we thought their appointed honorary life present Terry Brown ever was.

The age of high oil rices is probably over so it's unlikely that a Russian or Arab billionaire will take us over and rebuild the stadium. A Chinese plastic cup manufacturer is probably more likely.

That Ruski stadium looks like it’s got straight sides whereas our heap of shit is round rather akin to a puckered arsehole.
